We attach a photograph ... Ken Aston's first school football team that he selected at his Newbury Park primary school in Ilford (before he went to William Talbot).
We did play William Talbot in our our first ever proper game of football for which Ken Aston taught us the rules
(we had only done playground footer with a... dud tennis ball until then),
gave us a lesson in penalty kicks enabling him to select the team and he provided the Ilford FC colours for us to play in.
We lost to... [Wm T] William Talbot 10-1 but felt fantastic to play in our town's kit.
... John Davis & John Dawes - now of Hawkhurst, originally Ilford.

Note: In the run up to the 1963 FA Cup Final much press interest was made of the boots which
Ken Aston was intending to wear in his final game.
However as he was putting his boot on, on the day an FA official kindly expressed that it would not be the right thing to do.
He subsequently wore them in charity and testimonial matches with many comments that when a player is looking down he could easily spot the Referee.

World Cup Quarter Final - July 1966 Match
at Wembley Stadium. England 1 vs Argentina 0
Chief Referee Ken Aston intervenes after
Antonio Rattin of Argentna was sent off
by match Referee Rudolf Kreitlein
Rattin refused to leave the pitch
and delayed the match for 20 minutes
Chief Referee Ken Aston...helping Referee Rudolph Kreitlein with police protection after the match. Referee Rudolf Kreitlein is escorted off the Wembley pitch by policemen, along with FIFA referees' official Ken Aston, at the end of one of the most controversial games of any World Cup, with Argentina incensed following their 1-0 defeat against England. Before this match, there was nothing particularly acrimonious about the rivalry between England and Argentina, but this was the prelude to several bitterly contested clashes - notably in the World Cups of 1986, 1998 and 2002 Ken Aston... at his World Cup Final 1962 Chief Referee Ken Aston...
at a FIFA dinner function
Rattín continuously shouted at the German referee, who in the end decided to send the Gaucho off. The 1, 91 meter tall midfielder didn’t accept the 1, 68 meter referee’s decision, and continued to argue feverishly The game couldn’t be continued for 7 minutes, whilst Kreitlein’s Supervisor - Ken Aston, tried to convince Rattín to leave the pitch. In the end the Argentine was forced to leave the pitch courtesy of two English policemen.
An Argentinean kicked Kreitlein in the calf while he was leaving the pitch after the match, and the Argentinean FA tried to get Kreitlein knocked off the list of official referees for the World Cup after the match. Kreitlein was, however, defended by FIFA’s officials, and was even praised by FIFA president Sir Stanley Rous after his performance in the match between Italy and the Soviet Union during the group phase: Today we saw the refereeing performance of the man who is going to officiate in the final.
